Gems

Gems are the stat-customization layer for high-end gear. Once a piece of armor or a weapon has a socket, a cut gem slots into it for a fixed stat bonus, and the auction-house gem market is one of the most reliable categories on every realm.

The gem catalog covers every cut gem Blizzard ships in the live game data, plus the uncut raw stones that feed the jewelcrafting profession. The subclass column groups cuts by the stat they carry — multi-stat cuts, critical strike, haste, versatility, mastery, and the primary-stat cuts — alongside Legion-era artifact relics. Each entry shows the gem's name, item level, required level, and quality tier.

Gem prices respond directly to the raid calendar. Multi-stat cuts serve the widest audience and clear fastest; niche cuts trade thin and swing hard. When a new tier of content lands, the previous tier's gems lose their audience almost overnight, and the history chart catches that hand-off cleanly — one line falling to its floor as the replacement line establishes its range. The spread between an uncut stone and its finished cut is the jewelcrafter's margin, and comparing the two charts makes it visible: when the spread collapses, cutting stops paying and cut supply thins until it reopens. Where an era throttled top-end stones behind prospecting odds or daily transmutes, the throttle shows as a floor that refuses to sink.

The socket system arrived with The Burning Crusade, so the catalog is richest on Retail, MoP Classic, and TBC Classic; Season of Discovery is built on the original vanilla game, which predates sockets entirely and carries no gem market. Retail gem prices refresh hourly from the Blizzard auction-house API; TBC Classic refreshes hourly and MoP Classic daily through TradeSkillMaster.

The gem market rewards watching the chart rather than the current listing: cuts for the active raid tier turn over daily, while older cuts settle to a stable floor that makes any overpriced posting obvious.
