Reagents

The reagent class collects the game's pure crafting inputs that sit outside the trade-goods taxonomy: dedicated reagent items, context tokens, and keystones. It is a small shelf with an outsized connection to the crafting economy around it.

About Reagents

Dedicated reagents make up most of this class: items whose only purpose is to be used up by a recipe or a game system. Their value is derivative, worth what the things made from them are worth minus the rest of the material bill, so reagent prices shadow their end products with a short delay.

Reagents as an early signal, and the older editions' spell reagents, 2 paragraphs

That makes them an early signal: when an end product's market tightens, the reagents feeding it move first, often within hours on the hourly editions. Listings are thin, so one large posting can move a reagent's price sharply. Context tokens and keystones, tied to game systems, move in steps when a patch changes how the game hands them out.

In WoW Forever, TBC Classic and Season of Discovery, reagent also means the spell materials casters buy by the stack, such as a priest's candles, a paladin's symbols, or a shaman's ankhs. Demand is steady and vendors sell most of them, so listings price as a small markup over the vendor and sit unsold when it grows too far.
