Consumables

Consumables move volume. Flasks, potions, food, bandages, scrolls, and the rest of the buff economy clear and replenish on the auction house faster than almost any other category, which makes them a useful barometer for overall realm activity.

About Consumables

Consumable prices follow the weekly raid reset more closely than any other class. Demand gathers before reset day, so the same flask can trade at visibly different prices on different days of one week. Potions and flasks ride that cycle hardest; food and drink smooth it out because leveling players buy all year.

What the classic editions add, and how often each edition updates, 2 paragraphs

The classic editions add their own staples. Protection potions spike before the raids that demand them, bandages still sell because first aid heals on its own cooldown, and Season of Discovery layers fresh raid demand onto original-game supply, which keeps its buff economy busier than the edition's size suggests.

How closely a price history follows that cycle depends on the edition. Retail and TBC Classic update hourly, fast enough to show a raid evening while it happens; Season of Discovery updates about twice a day and MoP Classic daily, so their consumable prices read as trend lines rather than tickers.
