About Trade Goods

Materials are the clearest patch-cycle market in the game. A new patch sends old-content materials cheap and new-content materials expensive, and the shift shows in the price history weeks before it is obvious in the game itself.

Where each material's supply comes from, and why realms differ, 2 paragraphs

Each subclass has its own supply line. Cloth follows leveling traffic through humanoid zones; enchanting materials come from disenchanting unwanted gear, so their supply rises when gear prices fall; and elemental materials such as motes and primals gate so many classic-era recipes that primal trading was effectively TBC's spot market.

Commodity prices also diverge between realms more than gear prices do: the same ore can be plentiful on one server and scarce on another. Retail narrows that gap for true commodities, which trade in one region-wide pool, while the classic editions still price every stack realm by realm.
